Welcome to the European Registrars Conference in Berlin

We are truly delighted to welcome you to the upcoming European Registrars Conference (ERC), which will take place in Berlin and is proudly hosted by Registrars Deutschland. It is a special honor for us to organize this significant gathering of registrars from across Europe and beyond—22 years after the very first ERC was held.

Since that (inaugural) conference in Wolfsburg, Germany, our profession has undergone a remarkable journey of growth and professionalization. We have witnessed—and actively contributed to—the development of a strong, vibrant, and ever-expanding network of registrars, both nationally and internationally.

Over the years, Registrars Deutschland has become an integral part of the global community of registrars. We feel deeply connected to this diverse and dedicated professional family, and hosting the ERC once again feels like a meaningful milestone in our shared history.

With great anticipation and heartfelt enthusiasm, we look forward to welcoming you to Berlin.

Let us come together to exchange ideas, strengthen our connections, and celebrate the spirit of collaboration that defines our profession.
Sincerely,

Nicole Schmidt, Robert Hintz and Marianne Aselmeier

Under the slogan ‘Culture Connects’, we are structuring the conference around themed sessions covering every area of the registrar’s work. Topics such as insurance, loan agreements, tenders and contingency plans remain on our agenda, and we will continue to address the extensive subject of sustainability. The session on digitalisation deals with the optimisation of various work processes. Among other things, we want to consider the extent to which AI can affect or even transform our areas of work. In the session on exchanging ideas, we will introduce various new formats aimed at promoting cooperation nationally and internationally, as networking is essential to our work.

The call for papers will be sent out to the networks in December 2025/ January 2026. We are already looking forward to receiving numerous submissions!

ERC2026 at the KOSMOS

ERC26 will be held at a special location in Berlin, the KOSMOS. In 1961, when it was built, it was the most modern cinema in the GDR (East Germany) and embodied the spirit of the ‘space race’. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the reunification of the two Germanys, it became the first multiplex cinema in the new federal states before being converted into an event venue in 2005.

Close by, marking the eastern end of Karl-Marx-Allee, is the Frankfurter Tor. The name is reflected in the architecture of the buildings on the western side of the square. The two symmetrical tower blocks designed by architect Hermann Henselmann give the impression of a city gate (Tor), marking the beginning of the architectural ensemble. This magnificent boulevard, in the style of socialist classicism with allusions to Berlin’s neoclassical architecture, was created to serve as the prestigious main thoroughfare of the then capital of the GDR. The entire square is now a listed historical monument.

Registrars Deutschland

Hosting the fourth European Registrars Conference in Wolfsburg in 2004 marked the completion of the establishment of Registrars Deutschland. The decisive factor in founding the association was our commitment to promoting the professionalisation of the registrar’s occupation and facilitating the exchange of specialist expertise.

Today, the association has over two hundred members and is recognised both nationally and internationally, being fully integrated in the European Registrars Group network.

Regular workshops, professional development courses and conferences ensure that our knowledge is constantly kept up to date. Since 2018, Registrars Deutschland has successfully partnered with the Department of Culture and Design at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences on a detailed further education programme for postgraduates wishing to become registrars.

Registrars Deutschland is committed to setting recognised standards for work related to exhibitions and collections in museums, exhibition venues and galleries, as well as for freelancers. We look forward to making the 14th European Registrars Conference a success for all.
